The Xiaomi Black Shark Gaming Smartphone is Here

Gaming smartphones aren't dead yet, it seems. And the Xiaomi Black Shark is here to prove it.
The Xiaomi Black Shark Gaming Smartphone is Here
Just like the Razer Phone of yesteryear, the Xiaomi Black Shark sports specifications that should run most, if not all, Android games like butter, with its Snapdragon 845 chipset and 6 or 8 GB RAM models (we have yet to see though if it can run NBA 2K18 without lag). It also features a 18:9 6-inch display and a 4000mAh battery for longer play times. Unfortunately, the device doesn't have a microSD card slot.

Design-wise, the Black Shark indeed looks like a smartphone made for gaming, with blacks/grays and neon green trimmings all around the device, one stolen straight out of Razer's playbook - though whether or not it looks good is up in the air. The device also has its own gimmicks, such as a "multi-stage integrated liquid-cooling system" that's claimed to bring down the CPU's temperature down 8 degrees celsius, and a Nintendo Switch-styled gamepad adapter, which you can snap into the phone and use it as a directional button.

And while there's no clear advantage of having a Black Shark over, say an ASUS Zenfone 5Z (since both devices sport a Snapdragon 845 and 6GB of RAM), the device is cheaper by a few thousand bucks (when directly converted into PHP, around PHP 25,000), enough for some with a tight pocket to consider it. If you ask this writer though, maybe when it goes on a fire sale.
